Would you like to take out your laptop with you but cant extend its power because it still uses a barrel jack? Worry no more. If you would like to convert your old laptop’s power input, just follow these steps.
Find out your laptop’s power input
There are two ways to find out your laptop’s power input.
- Look at the bottom of your laptop and find the input voltage and amps.

After getting the voltage and amps, multiply the two values together and the result would be the minimum power input. So let’s say that my laptop shows 20V – 3.25 A. If I multiply 20V x 3.25 A, the result would be 65W.
Now that we have the minimum power requirement which is 65W, it is very important to remember that all the components we are going to buy, starting from the adapter to the cable to the power bank, should be able to handle 65W or higher.
Buy a DC to USB-C adapter
First, you need to measure your power adapter’s DC jack size. If you don’t have the original adapter anymore, you can search for the size online. Then, you can find different types of DC to USB-C adapters in Lazada and Shopee. If you are still not sure, just ask the seller from Lazada or Shopee and they would gladly help you out.

Buy a compatible USB-C to USB-C cable
After choosing the correct DC to USB-C adapter, the next we need to find is a USB-C to USB-C cable. There are various USB-C cables available in Lazada and Shopee. But in my case, I did not need to buy a separate cable because the one I have already came included in the power bank I’m using. So what I would recommend is the USB-C cable from UGREEN which already comes included in their power banks.
Buy a compatible power bank or charger
When it comes to selecting a power bank or charger for your laptop, the process can be a little bit tricky because some manufacturers do not display the maximum power output for each port of the charging device. For example, some chargers advertise it is capable of 100W output, but if you look at the individual charging port, the 100W is a combination of the power output of the ports.
